UFC 113: Shogun’s Revenge and More

We got it right folks, Southbend Wall predicted Shogun to win over Machida, and it was done by a devastated 1st Round Knock Out. We have the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion proclaimed at the sold-out Bell Centre, Quebec, Montreal, Canada, Saturday night.

Rua not just avenged his highly controversial loss at UFC 104 in October 2009 to Machida but also made it assured that there be no more controversy this time around, taking the UFC Light Heavyweight title from an outclass Lyoto Machida with a 1st Round Knock Out. Machida’s end started when Rua landed a right and the two went down. Shogun then landed a crushing right to the head that closed the Champion’s eye. Octagon referee Yves Lavigne pitifully stopped the contest when Rua furiously landed more devastating blows. Shogun handed the 1st loss for the seemingly elusive and indestructible Machida. It was a sweet revenge for Shogun who possibly will meet the winner between the fight of Evans vs. Rampage.

In other bouts of the night Josh Koscheck defeated Paul Daley by a 30-27 decision, in a dull welterweight fight that earned Koscheck another shot to fight UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre sometime in December and would coach The Ultimate Fighter 12 opposite St. Pierre. The fight features unsportsmanlike manner by Daley who walked over to Kosheck that shoved him away, then Daley threw a punch at Koscheck that prompted Octagon referee Dan Miragliotta to step in, while UFC President Dana White rebuked Daley.

Kimbo Slice was shut-up by fellow cast of Season 10 TUF Matt Mitrione. Mitrione outclassed Slice from Round 1 and in Round 2 punished Slice with old fashioned leg kicks that softens Slice and then eventually stopped Slice by taking him down and pounded Slice with heavy punches until referee Miragliotta stopped the fight in favor of Mitrione.

It was a night where Canadian Fighters fall in their home turf. Jeremy Stephens wins a split decision over Sam Stout. It’s a fight where fighters left the cage with bleeding noses and mouths, fought on every terms but Jeremy Stephens packed his punches with power that might have made the difference. Alan Belcher defeated Canadian prospect Patrick Cote with a rear naked choke submission. Belcher, after the bout, called UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson The Spider Silva and wants the winner of Silva vs. Sonnen, where he believes he’s ready for a title shot. Just be careful what you’re wishing, man. Johny Hendricks defeated T.J. Grant with a unanimous decision. John Salter defeated Jason MacDonald by T.K.O. stoppage by referee.
